87,000 tons of PPE.

Just last month, the WHO issued a statement on the global analysis of healthcare waste generated in the context of Covid-19.

The report refers to approximately 87,000 tons of personal protective equipment (PPE) purchased between March 2020 and November 2021, likely turned into waste.

This highlights a crucial issue for the United Nations: the unsustainability of the current healthcare waste management system.

The WHO urges every professional, organization, institution, and state to take responsibility by addressing the emergency situation with extreme care and seeking sustainable solutions.

The motto is: “building back better.”
